Monday, April 18th (Part2)

N.B.: for some unknown reason I couldn't add anymore pictures, hence a new blog!

After our meal, it was time for some exercises: an afternoon of canoeing.
The weather was perfect: not too hot, but warm enough to enjoy "une grande ballade sur la rivière".
We set off in canoes of three for a two hour trip down the "Don" river. It was fun but hard work for some.

Half way, we had to go down a "slide" which resulted in some rather drenched people, especially the ones in the front. Overall, even if it was tiring, we all enjoyed it :-)

In the evening, there was a buffet organised. All the host families were invited and brought either a savoury dish or a sweet. Also, all the boys who came to Llanidloes in October were present as well as some of the staff who accompanied them. around two hundred people joined in.
It was the perfect time to take a "family" picture of all the participants to the Exchange (or at least all the ones present during the evening)

The evening ended with a very impressive 45 minute slide show made by my French colleague and friend Anaïck Goujon... Needless to say, the evening was a hit :-)

And that is all for Monday ;-)

Tuesday, April 19th

Early departure today as we were travelling an hour and forty minutes south to "Le Puy du Fou" theme park, in the Vendée region. Unlike most of other parks, this one has no roller coasters, but instead is based on visual re-enactment of various periods of history.
Although unsure at the beginning, the pupils seem to have enjoyed everything they saw today :-D

We followed the life of a glorious navy officer, great hero of the American independance, whose life is going to change in 1793 during his ultimate battle for freedom!

Then we trembled at the sight of terrifying northern warriors who launched an attack on a peaceful village. We witnessed great special effects and thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Then we shivered as birds of prey passed right over our head! I don't expect the we will ever forget the grand finale: a ballet featuring kites, pelicans, storks, marabous as well as all the birds of prey seen throughout the show called "The phantom birds'dance"

After that show, we split up into groups and went to see what people really wanted to see as we knew we weren't going to have enough time to see everything.

Nevertheless, we all gathered back for the last show of the day : The Triumph Sign where we followed the story of a centurion who decided to convert to Christianism because he did not like the way the Roman treated the Christians. We saw gladiators fights, horse and cart races, lions and lionesses, a tiger and a hyena.

The weather was again gorgeous which added a bonus to the day. We all went back to our host family with great memories of the day.

On that note, Nos da pawb... Sorry, I meant to say: bonne nuit tout le monde.
